DAVE CHENG Hi Mr. Ng, for clarification SCGM do not produce biodegradable plastic. The terminology biodegradable must be from raw materials made of plant or organic base. However, SCGM produces photo and oxo degradable which is still plastic based but with degradable addictives such as OXIUM. We do not have any plans to sign up with franchise operator as the volume is not significant and retailers can purchase directly from our 30 plus distributors around Malaysia.

uptrending Hi Dave Cheng,
Can you please explain and elaborate your "photo and oxo degradable which is still plastic", how long does it take for the plastic to be degraded and what is the true meaning of "degradable"? How well do the packaging materials used by SCGM go down with the Environment Authority? Are the materials considered "environment friendly"?

Thank you.
28/03/2019 7:27 PM
fullcreammilk hi Dave Cheng, thanks for speaking to us here. If SCGM's products are oxo-degradable or photo-degradable, then the products likely won't degrade in the anaerobic conditions of our landfills (and Indonesia's, I presume). And EU is trying to ban oxo-degradable plastics because these might just break into microplastics and further harm the environment. Is SCGM going to address the limited potential (both environmental and economic) of these products?

abang_misai This new plastic is safe for food packing? Any research to prove it is safe?

please explain on impact of resin price on SCGM costs ?
and what action will SCGM make to control and make sure SGCM still profitable in the view of unstable resin price (resin price up and down follow the oil price)?

Invest_Sensibly Dave Chen,

I understand that fund raising is on the card. May I know when the right issues will be carried out? Kindly enlighten.
29/03/2019 3:13 PM
Invest_Sensibly It seems fullmikcream's highlight is frightening. You can solve the degradability issue on condition the used plastic is exposed to sunlight for 5 years. If the used plastic is buried, it can take as much as 50 years to breakdown into microplastic which is a lot more harmful.

The European Commission has recommended EU-wide measures be taken against so-called ‘oxo-degradable‘ plastics. In a report published earlier this month, the Commission said that “a process to restrict the use of oxo-plastics in the EU will be started”. European Bioplastics (EUBP), the association of the bioplastics industry in Europe, strongly welcomes this clear commitment to take action. “EUBP has long been warning about the harmful effects of oxo-degradable plastics on the environment as well as the potential damage to the reputation and understanding of truly biodegradable plastics. Several cases of greenwashing and false claims have been reported over the past years that have lead to confusion about biodegradation in the general public,” says Hasso von Pogrell, Managing Director of EUBP.

Invest_Sensibly Dave, with the advent of internet era, you cannot simply tipu us.
29/03/2019 3:22 PM
roimekoi for your information, bioplastic is another degradable industry that uses corn plastic as their main source of plastic, European bioplastic is currently representing this organisation, currently in malaysia palm oil case, European countries is also trying to protect their own industry much like palm oil vs sunflower seed oil....
this is like american association research spam on butter for heart disease that after 50 years is not found to be true.
30/03/2019 3:29 AM
DAVE CHENG For all post related to degradable materials, please be informed that an informal session will be held in Kuala Lumpur. Time and date to be advised. Please be informed if you wish to know more about degradable additives used by SCGM, all of you are invited to attend the INFORMAL SESSION. Strictly NO FOOD served. Subsequent to the event, please be advised that you post factual information about the company.
30/03/2019 1:32 PM
DAVE CHENG For post on roimekoi, thank you for the clarification. Yes, EU are protecting their turf similar to the ban on oil palm right now.

roimekoi Hi Dave, Sorry for disturbing during weekend, May i know currently how many foreign worker's currently and will be approaching 10 years of working experience with SCGM?

from annual report 2018, there are about 355 foreign workers and 241 workers age between 26-45?

How is the progress of finding a new owner for the old plant? to reduce the current debt of 123 million
31/03/2019 8:12 PM
DAVE CHENG Currently we have almost 500 plus foreign workers. For those approaching 10 years, we are taking steps to mitigate the issues like automation and retraining. For old plant, we are on a lookout for suitable buyer.

arv18 This company is world famous for using bonus issues to jack up and fry its stock price. Unless it can restart the "Bonus Issue" game again, a bit difficult to see it going up...
01/04/2019 7:51 PM
shpg22 Bonus issue by right should have no effect on its price/valuation. Somehow in M'sia ppl think otherwise.

abang_misai As you know, if the new equipment is under utilised again in the next Q, the auditor will pressure management to do impairment.
04/04/2019 7:37 AM
Invest_Sensibly Agree! Just like oil & gas stocks when their new rigs can't generate income to cover expenses, the auditors forced them to impair those assets. More pains in the pipeline.

There is absolutely no need to hurry to buy this stock.

Since there is no earnings, the stock will get lower and lower as retailers sell to one another. Until the government does away the one time use plastic policy, SCGM has no hope to return to the black.
04/04/2019 9:50 AM
Invest_Sensibly 4 brothers cum bosses very high. RM1mil each for the 4 stooges. For plastic company. You must be kidding.
04/04/2019 9:55 AM
Shinnzaii Prospect look like not good...very challenging...depend on biodegradable packaging already...government try to embark eco friendly, polystyrene already banned, penang consider to lift plastic bag from 20sen to 50sen...soon plastic will slowly to replace by more eco friendly and soon food and beverage packaging also follow suit...management better consider to enter into paper packaging like Muda Holding...hehe

abang_misai The gimmick "degradable" won't work. Degraded into microplastics which then enter the food chain?

Oxi-photo degradable? Another marketing gimmick. When plastic sent to landfill, there will be no sunlight, the plastic won't degrade.

Government is right to ban the plastic.

Only the evils will support plastic industries.
22/04/2019 9:30 AM
RainT Strong support at RM1

when can below RM1???

abang_misai https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2019/04/23/yeo-plastic-waste-is-now-being-smuggled-into-malaysia/
23/04/2019 10:20 PM
abang_misai SCGM's management had on 24/9/2018 told the press that 40% of its raw materials (recycled resin) are derived from recycled sources.

While recycled resin requires further processing such as crushing and cleaning, it is 30% cheaper as compared to new resin, says SCGM.

Now the government has banned the recycled materials. Good luck.

YF24 It's time to jump in
29/04/2019 9:05 PM
moderninvestor @abat_misai, they dont source their resins from recycled plastics sourced from overseas only, they can also buy from other plastic companies. Anyways forget the rhetoric talks, there are still alot of plastic waste around in Malaysia to use as feedstock, not to mention from their own production line.
29/04/2019 10:28 PM
moderninvestor For those of you who thinks paper packaging can replace plastic packaging, please think again. There is simply no scale of production and paper packaging is nowhere near economical to compete with plastic products. Their products are not durable.
