Shinnzaii I don’t think so clamp down android tv box would boost Astro earning...as now you got internet you can just download and plug in hdmi connect to tv and enjoy it...hmmm

DickyMe Companies should learn to be competitive and independent instead of hiding behind protection. Protectionism to shoddy, expensive products and half past six services which is rampant in Malaysia is not good for consumers.

Santiago Friends, Astro at 1.55 now.. I would advise not to go long on this counter. It will be on a downtrend soon and will drop as low as rm1.00 soon. Just my view.. risk and reward is yours.. good luck

Spice828 Khazanah and EPF have substantial shares. They won’t let it down. Look at FGV as 1 of the examples. Moreover Astro has high yield.
19/02/2019 6:33 PM
DickyMe Khazanah & EPF using public money aka BAILOUT. They didn't earn it through business endeavor but via monthly contribution from Malaysians.

DickyMe The reason why these entities are eagerly protecting is because they need to protect highly sensitive privilege creatures who are deemed unfit to face life challenges on their own. So from cradle to graveyard, constantly need intravenous drip of assistance.

26/03/2019 6:22 PM
bjaya So is the share price against correspondence period . Therefore dividend yield still look attractive to some albeit its dwindling market share .
26/03/2019 8:34 PM
graynoize8 I'm surprised EPF bought so much leading up to the result day.
26/03/2019 8:56 PM
graynoize8 EPS down 40% y-o-y. ADEX on a downward spiral, similar to the other media players in the industry. Facebook and Google are eating up all the ADEX while giving back almost nothing in taxes to the country.

pussycats Astro is a sunset business.
Have to fight with TM online n countless other.
How to survive?
Years ago, its price was Rm4 then dropped to Rm3, now drop to Rm1 plus plus. Sad
27/03/2019 7:44 AM
graynoize Astro has to many AVPs and VPs all earning crazy huge salaries while the employees underneath them are struggling. When things go wrong, blame the bottom.
27/03/2019 9:16 AM
DickyMe As long as censorship, moral policing, holier than thou and biased programmes are churned out, Malaysia broadcasters face a bleak future. There are tons of alternatives ONLINE offered globally. So, middle finger to the authorities.
27/03/2019 5:53 PM
graynoize8 Biggest problem is ADEX. Most big brands are now going for Google and Facebook ads that are extremely personalised and targeted.

Mainstream media ads are so old school and so 90s like. ROI cannot compare with tech giants. And such precise ads also are so much cheaper than the ineffective ads on mainstream.

Buying power is also shifting from those rich high disposable income, to those young generation that shop like crazy on credit.

So ads are going to where the eyeballs that are more likely to purchase -- which means digital.

And another point is Facebook and Google barely pay tax in Malaysia. Government should do something.
27/03/2019 8:15 PM
graynoize8 Even if digital ADEX grows rapidly for the digital side of mainstream media, it can't make up for the traditional ADEX (newspaper, TV, radio, TV show ads) lost. It's much cheaper to place ads on Facebook and Google than pay mainstream media companies.

Malaysia’s market accessibility level is in danger of being downgraded under the FTSE’s global classification framework.
Bloomberg reported that the ringgit’s decline today was partly due to concerns about Malaysia possibly being dropped from the WGBI, as well as due to falling oil prices. The ringgit is also affected by headlines from former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak’s trial related to 1MDB, as well as Malaysia’s dispute with the European Union over palm oil.

Bloomberg also reported FTSE Bursa Malaysia the “worst major market in the world so far this year” as it has slipped 3.6 percent.“Hopes of luring back global investors to a battered stock market are dimming by the day for Malaysia’s government,” the financial daily reported.Samsung Asset Management Co reportedly said the gloomy outlook for the Malaysian stock market is not likely to lift anytime soon.

“Malaysia will likely disappoint over the next year because since the new government came in power in May 2018, it has been lowering public debt with fiscal tightening.

..dim view of Malaysian stocks was not because there was a downside risk, but “just that there is nothing to be positive about over the next 12 months”.
