Fabien "The Efficient Capital Allocater" a lot of funds are losing patience.

but at current price, it's a very nice yield
11/09/2019 5:01 PM
kahhoeng anybody knows if the 0.12 dividend an increase from last year or just combining the two 0.06 dividend into one single payment? thanks!
07/10/2019 8:11 PM
yangxi no.. this qtr dividend increase . 0.12c !! compare last yr qtr is 0.06c
09/10/2019 12:52 PM
kahhoeng yangxi, that's why I am asking, cause it used to be 0.06 with another 0.06 payable early next year, followed by another 0.28 final dividend (well, not used to, but for 2 years, much less before this). If the trend is what it is, we would be looking at more than 0.40 dividend for FY19 then. Sigh, forgot about the AGM and didn't attend this year, would have better idea had I attended...

Jacklew Good yield at current price it seems.

pierre69 i bought some at RM6.47 - keeping for long term

meerkat0078 Can buy and keep - they do have palm oil plantations in Indonesia as well. If CPO price has increased, their results should be better for the next Q.

Fabien "The Efficient Capital Allocater" Aberdeen is still selling. perhaps partly explain why the share price hardly move

actually, the company can create more value to shareholders. their net cash position is 60% of market cap

they should initiate some buy back, increase dividends or even seek acquisitions with such big hoards of cash
09/01/2020 10:55 AM
Endgame Why Aberdeen is selling if it is good stock? Or they know any hidden bad news?
10/01/2020 1:03 PM
drakoryn they have been selling for the last 3 years, think no bad news, just became impatient
13/01/2020 4:39 PM
Fabien "The Efficient Capital Allocater" funds cannot afford to be patient. they can't afford to have capital lock in for years while stock is not performing and the fund is underperforming relative to its benchmark

there is no catalyst in sight. no value creation situation to unlock the value

as a retailer, we can afford to have bit more patience. the way i see it, it's yield of 6% at 6.50 is attractive enough. my capital is not earning nothing. it's better than FD but of course one has to decide the risk reward situation relative to your appetite

my view is that the net cash of 60% should give a cushion to downside risk

take care of downside, and let upside take care by itself
13/01/2020 4:49 PM
kahhoeng To my understanding, Aberdeen is selling because investors are pulling funds out of Aberdeen, causing them to sell for their redemption. Puzzling as to why EPF is selling though, my best guess would be a need to declare 'profit' by selling what's profitable yet not very promising, in this case, Oriental.

Nighelanghelo this company will cut dividend when recession comes (see 2009-2012)
target $4

Karlos From the perspective of net asset backing per share, this counter appear cheap if you are in the position to influence or control the running of the company. However the company is fully controlled by one group of shareholders. No way any body be it institution or individual can have any influence of the future of the company. So we are not surprised that institutional share holders are not keen to be strategic investors.

RainT Think cannot make money invest in ORIENT
16/04/2020 7:44 PM
RainT Even it have huge cash pile but share price is control by some people

from year 2015 to year 2019, share price stuck at the same range
16/04/2020 7:45 PM
RainT if buy at that time will incur high opportunity costs for 05 years
16/04/2020 7:45 PM
Fabien "The Efficient Capital Allocater" you are not far from the truth. but at this price, net cash is >80% of market cap.
16/04/2020 8:19 PM
Thinkcarefully Its ok if share price stucked at the same range if dividend yield is more than 5%

Fabien "The Efficient Capital Allocater" there are many ways to diversify your capital.

on top down basis, you have your asset allocations.

from there, zooming in to equities portfolios, you have diversification by sectors. of course, you will have different stocks in different sectors. alternatively, you could choose to invest in conglomerates such as Oriental.

if you are looking for a defensive play, a company that is backed by huge cash pile (80% of market value), plantations lands that are carrying at cost value, hotels, hospitals, etc., you are looking at a real bargain here.

Let's look at some financial metrics.

NTA is at RM11 backed by huge tangible assets.

Dividend yield is at 7% (twice of risk free rate MGS 3.5%).

Cash yield at a whopping 10% (yes, it's a cash generating machine). Implying a Price over FCF of 10x.

EV/EBIT is only 3x, giving you earnings yield of whopping 35%.

Of course, its ROE is low at 5% due to huge cash pile. Looking at a more reliable measure of its capital structure, its ROIC is at 16.5%.

it's a low beta stock, not one for the high risk takers

RainT @fabien

but this share price just could not move up

so how to make money frm buy ORIENT?
28/04/2020 6:41 PM
Fabien "The Efficient Capital Allocater" why cannot make money from Orient?

the yield itself is at 7%

and when the valuation itself revert to its historical mean

you are easily looking at upside of 30%
