Shamsul Anuar replaces Abdul Karim as SCIB chairman

Shamsul Anuar Ahamad Ibrahim, a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants, was first appointed to the board of the company on Sept 1, 2015.

KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 25): Sarawak Consolidated Industries Bhd (SCIB) has redesignated Shamsul Anuar Ahamad Ibrahim as its independent non-executive chairman with immediate effect.

He replaces Datuk Dr Mohd Abdul Karim Abdullah, who has been redesignated as a non-independent and non-executive director, an SCIB's bourse filing with Bursa Malaysia showed on Tuesday (Oct 25).

Abdul Karim, 57, is SCIB's largest shareholder with a 23.996% stake in the civil engineering specialist company. He was made the chairman on Oct 1, 2019.

Shamsul Anuar, a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants, was first appointed to the board of the company on Sept 1, 2015.

He is also a member of SCIB’s audit committee, remuneration and nomination committee, as well as the chairman of the risk management committee.

Shamsul Anuar is currently Permodalan ASSAR Sdn Bhd's group corporate affairs general manager. He also sits on the board of Transnational Insurance Brokers Sdn Bhd.

Permodalan ASSAR is the holding company of Amanah Saham Sarawak Bhd, a state-owned investment company with a portfolio of investments in financial services, agriculture and resource-based, property development and construction, services and technology, manufacturing, trading and others.

“I am delighted at the redesignation, and I look forward to working even more closely with the team in our journey to transform SCIB to a better, stronger and more sustainable business through our expansion to Peninsular Malaysia and, more recently, our exploration into projects in neighbouring Kalimantan, Indonesia,” Shamsul Annuar said in a separate statement

SCIB group managing director and chief executive officer Rosland Othman said he looks forward to working with Shamsul Anuar to grow the group, adding that the new chairman's experience in state-owned enterprises will be invaluable to SCIB.

At the noon break on Tuesday, SCIB’s share price was up 3.13% or half a sen to 16.5 sen, translating into a market capitalisation of RM96 million. Year to date, the stock has fallen 19.51%.
