Digitalising every aspect of our life. UOB Kay Hian’s Industry 4.0 Conference (Robotics and AI) 2018 featured seven corporate meetings, five keynote speaker sessions and two exhibitors (see details overleaf). The conference covered various topics such as: a) Industry 4.0, IOT and Robotics in Manufacturing and Services, b) Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Visual Recognition in Manufacturing Processes, c) Big Data Analytics, and d) Improving Efficiency and Design Processes via Additive Manufacturing (3D printing).
Disruptive technologies transforming the manufacturing landscape and way of doing businesses. Speakers from ABB, General Electric Malaysia, IBM Malaysia and Fusionex International shared how disruptive technologies transform the traditional manufacturing activities and the way of doing businesses across many industries including finance, medical and retail. IBM Malaysia talked on how the cognitive systems could learn and interact with human and the benefits arise from the forging of a new partnership between man and machine. Fusionex shared how the use of Big Data combined with AI is able to improve process flows, quality and overall productivity in the manufacturing sector. ABB presented on robotics technology that is set to replace labour, by being able to save on costs and boost productivity and quality consistency. General Electric Malaysia presented the benefits of 3D printing and the potential market size of this technology.
Malaysia government committed to helping local manufacturing ecosystem in adopting Industry 4.0. During the conference, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) shared about government policies to ensure the manufacturing sector stays competitive in the Industry 4.0 era. These include various tax incentives and measures to help SMEs digitalise their enterprises.
