De La Soul's debut release, 3 Feet High & Rising is one that was an oddity when it dropped. The world of hip-hop in the late 80s was pretty much in the gangsta boom - with groups like NWA & Public Enemy dominating the charts with their hardcore, confrontational & sometimes violent lyrics. 3 Feet introduced the use of funky, quirky and eclectic sampling to invoke unfiltered fun.
