KUALA LUMPUR (June 15): TIME dotCom Bhd is suing www.celebseek.com, a little-known tabloid over a fake news article which purportedly linked TIME dotCom commander-in-chief Afzal Abdul Rahim to the remand of a completely unconnected individual who was reported to have been remanded in connection to some enforcement action in Johor.
In a bourse filing on Wednesday (June 15), TIME dotCom said the tabloid website had a history of attracting attention via "clickbait" articles.
“We wish to categorically state that this incident has nothing to do whatsoever with TdC (TIME dotCom) or our commander-in-chief,” it said.
The company said it had also filed a complaint with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and the police.
“This kind of slanderous, malicious behaviour unnecessarily risks corporate and personal reputations for no other reason than to profit seek.
“The board takes this issue very seriously and is committed to taking every action needed to bring 'www.celebseek.com' and its owners to justice, no matter which corner of the Internet they are hiding or hosted in,” it said.
The company said this also includes content aggregators who have republished the malicious article without verifying its contents.
At midday break on Wednesday, TIME dotCom fell 3.28% or 14 sen to RM4.13 with 532,600 shares traded.
