KUALA LUMPUR (June 22): Mestron Holdings Bhd has secured a total of RM17.5 million worth of orders from telecommunication infrastructure companies since the start of the year, in line with the accelerated implementation of the National Digital Network (JENDELA).

In a statement, it said these works were awarded by various companies, including Smartgen Technology Sdn Bhd, Hydro Vista Sdn Bhd and OCK Setia Engineering Sdn Bhd.

"It has been a great start for the year 2022 as we move beyond the Covid-19 pandemic. We are excited about the group's prospects as we have seen a sharp improvement in our order books during the first five months of this year.

"The pickup of these orders are supported by the faster roll-out of the telecom projects following the reopening of the economy," said Mestron managing director Por Teong Eng.

The company noted Digital Nasional Bhd's target of achieving 37.9% coverage of populated areas by end-2022, and said the accelerated 5G roll-out will benefit Mestron, as its main source of revenue is from the sales of standard and specialty poles.

It added that the recent job wins were a part of JENDELA Phase 1, and are expected to be delivered by August 2022.

"It has been a busy year for us as we have won three contracts from three different telecom infrastructure players.

"These are just the ones that we have contracted in 2022, and the group is looking forward to tapping on the growing demand for its specialty poles within the telecom segment amidst the roll-out of 5G network nationwide," said Por.

He added that the group is aiming to secure another RM20 million worth of contracts over the next six months, which will be supported by the 5G network roll-out.

Mestron was up 0.5 sen or 1.49% to 34 sen at the noon market break, which translates into a market capitalisation of RM316.4 million.
