Ahmad Fuaad says both UMW Toyota Motor and Perodua have huge outstanding orders, and will continue to ramp up production to deliver the cars to customers.

KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 15): UMW Group delivered 24,983 units of vehicles in July 2022, compared with 2,105 registered in July 2021.

In a statement on Monday (Aug 15), the group said both UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) and UMW’s associate company Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) registered healthy sales for the month.

The group said sales in July 2021 were affected by the implementation of the full movement control order (FMCO) from June 1 to Aug 15 that year.

Meanwhile, for the first seven months of 2022, UMW said it delivered a total of 198,237 units, 48% higher than the 133,506 units registered in the corresponding period of 2021.

It said UMWT registered sales of 6,637 units in July 2022, compared with 1,450 units a year ago, adding that the FMCO affected sales in July 2021.

The group said that year-to-date (until July 2022), UMWT had registered sales of 52,548 units, 48% higher than the 35,561 units registered in the corresponding period of 2021.

The group said that to refresh its model line-up, on June 24, UMWT started taking orders for the all-new Toyota Veloz to be launched soon.

To further strengthen its order book, UMWT is offering special promotions for the purchase of the Vios and Yaris, as part of its August sales campaign, the group said.

Meanwhile, Perodua registered sales of 18,346 units in July 2022, higher than the 655 units registered in July 2021.

The lower sales in July 2021 were also due to the FMCO.

For the first seven months of 2022, Perodua registered sales of 145,689 units, 49% higher than the 97,945 units registered in the corresponding period of 2021.

UMW said that to further strengthen its market leadership position, Perodua launched the all-new Perodua Alza on July 20.

The group said Perodua will also be introducing the Ativa Hybrid to the Malaysian market soon, albeit through the subscription scheme only.

UMW Holdings Bhd president and group chief executive officer Datuk Ahmad Fuaad Kenali said both UMWT and Perodua have huge outstanding orders, and will continue to ramp up production to deliver the cars to customers.

“With the easing of the semiconductor chip shortage and an improving supply chain, we are confident of achieving our sales targets for the year,” he said.
