KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 4): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said on Monday that Malaysia had already taken measures beyond what other countries are willing to do when it comes to Israel.

The government is also considering presenting to Parliament a list of companies operating within Malaysia that are linked to the Israeli regime, he said at the lower house of Parliament during a prime ministerial explanation session without elaborating further.

Malaysia's stance has been firm, Anwar stressed.

“Please do not pressure the government to go further,” he said. “This rhetoric is simply aimed at gaining attention.”

Earlier, Ahmad Tarmizi bin Sulaiman (Perikatan Nasional-Sik) urged the government to review the privatisation of Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (KL:AIRPORT) involving Global Infrastructure Partners, which was recently acquired by US-based asset manager BlackRock Inc.

The Malaysian chapter of Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions — a global movement that calls for economic, political, and cultural pressures on Israel as well as countries that support Israel over its occupation of Palestinian land — have accused BlackRock of being complicit in the atrocities.

Anwar noted that tens or even hundreds of companies with direct or indirect links to Israel operate in Malaysia, including in opposition-led states.

However, he emphasised that the government’s priority is to safeguard the security and interests of the people and the nation.
