BARCELONA, Spain, May 17 -- The first edition of the Huawei Digital Talent Summit opened here on Tuesday, focusing on "Reinventing Higher Education for a Sustainable Future."
In his opening address, Huawei's Senior Vice President Vincent Peng stressed the need for "digital training in the digital age" to ensure that "no one is left behind." He called for public-private collaboration to guarantee digital inclusion.
Huawei presented a white paper on the future of digital skills in Spain during the event, in which the company said that only 57 percent of Spain's population have at least basic digital skills, above the European Union (EU) average but far from the bloc's target of 80 percent by 2030.
"If we can foster digital talent, that's going to bring more digital value in terms of the digital economy and I think that's good for all of us in Spain," Eric Li, chief executive officer (CEO) of Huawei Spain, told Xinhua.
Huawei has identified digital talent as key to driving digital transformation and economic growth. Its aim is for the event to become an open and collaborative platform for relevant discussions.
It is therefore essential to cooperate with large companies active in the digital industries, said Cristina Colom, director of the Digital Future Society of the Mobile World Capital Barcelona Foundation.
