NAIROBI, May 18 -- Chinese-invested Global Trade Center in Nairobi, Kenya's capital, which is set to open in September, will boost Kenya's status as a regional commercial hub, an official said Wednesday.

Shamim Malowa, the marketing supervisor of AVIC International Real Estate Kenya, told journalists in Nairobi that finishing touches are currently underway on the four-tower 31-floor high-rise residential apartments, one-tower 42-floor office and the retail mall.

"We are bringing world-class services, meaning that we have partnered with world accredited brands in one complex," Malowa said during a regional forum on property.

She revealed that the 35-floor five-star J.W. Marriott hotel will open its doors in the last quarter of 2023.

Dubbed AVIC Towers, the mighty building complex is being constructed by the Chinese firm Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC)

Malowa noted that the GTC towers are based on the hotel, office, parking, shopping mall, convention, and apartment (HOPSCA) concept.

"So we are giving Kenyans and everyone coming into the country to do business, that kind of an experience that is world-class and efficient," Malowa said.

She observed that the project is expected to attract multinational firms to relocate to Nairobi due to its modern construction standards.

According to the AVIC official, the GTC's location next to the Chinese-built Nairobi Expressway makes it an ideal location for business and leisure tourists.

"We are in the middle of different access points and so we will attract people who are looking for efficiency in terms of time, besides productivity for the people living and working in the complex," Malowa said, noting that the GTC project will raise the profile of Nairobi by transforming the landscape and making it a hub for investment and tourism.

Malowa said that the GTC project has already inspired other African cities to put up similar real estate developments.
