Cambodian PM sets July 23, 2023, for country's general election; only three new Covid-19 cases on Friday (July 1)

PHNOM PENH, July 1 : Cambodia sets July 23, 2023 as the date for the seventh National Assembly election, according to a decision signed by Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen has announced this week.

"Minister in charge of the Council of Ministers, interior minister, economy and finance minister, all ministers, and heads of all relevant institutions must carry out this decision with high efficiency from the date of signature," he said.

The South-East Asian country holds the general election once every five years.

In the last general election on July 29, 2018, the prime minister's ruling Cambodian People's Party won all the 125 seats in the National Assembly.

Meanwhile, the Covid-19 pandemic issues in the country is down to almost nil.

The Ministry of Health on Friday (July 1) reported three new Covid-19 cases, noting that the three tested positive as they applied for health certificates for travelling abroad.

As of July 1, Cambodia had recorded a total of 136,282 Covid-19 cases with 133,206 recoveries and 3,056 fatalities.
