HANOI, Feb. 6 : Vietnam's trade ministry has set the target to have 15-20 percent renewable energy sources in its total primary energy supply by 2030, local media reported on Monday.

The rate will increase to 25-30 percent by 2045, local newspaper Vietnam News reported, citing an action plan on climate change response and green growth of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Greenhouse gas emissions from the electricity production sector are to be maintained at about 42 million tons of carbon dioxide by 2050, the newspaper said.

In addition, attention will be paid to promoting production and business models toward green growth. The focus will be on applying solutions to the economic and efficient exploitation and use of natural resources and energy, said the action plan.

There is also an aim to apply digital technology and digital transformation, develop infrastructure sustainability to improve growth quality, promote competitiveness and minimize negative impacts on the environment, it said.

As of 2021, the installed capacity of the renewables in Vietnam hit 20,670 megawatts, accounting for 27 percent of the total, said Vietnam News Agency in a report.

According to the International Renewable Energy Agency, Vietnam ranks in the top 10 countries with the highest installed solar energy capacity.
