LISBON, Sept. 10 -- Portuguese economy is expected to grow by 2 percent in both 2024 and 2025, according to data revealed in government budget discussions for year 2025.

The projection includes budget surpluses of 0.3 percent this year and 0.2 percent next year, Portugal's Lusa News Agency reported on Tuesday.

Revenue is expected to grow between 4 percent and 4.5 percent, while primary current expenditure will expand by 8 percent in 2024 and between 4 percent and 5 percent in 2025.

Interest payments on public debt are projected to rise by 500 million euros (550 million U.S. dollars) this year and by 300 million euros in 2025.

Despite these expenses, the government said it remains committed to fiscal discipline. However, opposition tax measures and toll reductions will impact the 2025 budget.

The official proposal for budget 2025 is expected to be submitted to the parliament by Oct. 10, according to Lusa report. (1 euro = 1.1 U.S. dollar)
