OTTAWA, Dec. 12 -- Canada's maple producers harvested 19.9 million gallons of maple syrup in 2024, up 91.3 percent compared with 2023, Statistics Canada said Thursday.

Favorable weather conditions and increased yields contributed to a record harvest in 2024, the national statistical agency said, adding that production was higher across all four maple-producing provinces after a challenging 2023 due to severe weather, such as storms and temperature fluctuations.

The increase will aid in replenishing the global strategic reserve, which fell to its lowest level in 16 years in 2023, the agency said.

Canadian producers exported 8.4 million gallons of maple products in the first three quarters of 2024, up 8.8 percent from the same period in 2023. Maple syrup is exported mainly to the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, Australia, France and Japan, said Statistics Canada.
