Mr Chin Yoong Kim peacefully passed away on 16th Nov 2022. Mr Chin had dedicated his entire teaching career to ACS Ipoh. He might not have taught all of us but through the decades, he certainly deeply touched many thousands of students. He is a legend, an icon of ACS Ipoh. The last of the very special breed of educators. After a hiatus of six years from the stage, Ipoh Mali Theatre, in collaboration with PAFID, proudly presents the charity gala concert, ‘TRY TO REMEMBER’.

This year, we return with a fervent mission: to share and celebrate with you a rich legacy of musical theatre in honour of the late Mr. Chin Yoong Kim, our maestro extraordinaire, who was also a treasured mentor to many, a beloved and esteemed schoolteacher, and caring soul to his associates, friends and family.

Our cast brings together Ipoh-born-and- bred talents from across three generations whose lives were touched by this exceptional man. They have starred in acclaimed musical productions staged by the ACS Music & Drama Society, the Perak Society of Performing Arts (PSPA) and Ipoh Mali Theatre from the 1960s up to the present day.

‘TRY TO REMEMBER’ would be our 2nd collaborative effort with PAFID, the first one being in 2018, titled ‘CHRISTMAS ON BROADWAY’. In 2016, the inaugural musical performance of Ipoh Mali Theatre, ‘MUSIC, WE THANK YOU’, was staged at WEIL Hotel, in aid of the needy pupils of ACS Ipoh. Yoong Kim was actively involved in both earlier concerts.

In December 2022, Yoong Kim was honoured in the farewell segment of the Boh Cameronian Awards as one of the late musical greats who had contributed to the music scene of Malaysia for the past 50 years. Yet his life was lived in honest simplicity, inspired by the words of the Quaker missionary, Etiennne de Grellet:-

‘I shall pass this way but once; any good that I can do or any kindness I can show to any human being; let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.’

‘TRY TO REMEMBER’ is open to the public with admission by donation only in the amounts of RM100 (free seating), RM200, RM300, and RM500 for VIP Patrons. Your contributions will directly benefit our cause, which you can find out more about in the attached appeal letter from PAFID. For more information or enquiries, kindly text us via Whatsapp at 012-5172807 or 016-9707473.

Tan Kit Pheng, Chin Mei Ling and Jamie Chang are the organizers of this concert.
