YESTERDAY, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob uploaded a video on his Facebook showing him being greeted by a large crowd after arriving from an official trip to the US.

The crowd lined his sides as soon as the Prime Minister entered the Subang Air Base. They cheered and clapped as Ismail Sabri walked passed them.

Outside, he was welcomed by another crowd carrying banners that read “DSIS, Our unsung hero” and “Malaysia is on the right track under DSIS leadership”.

DSIS refers to “Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri”. They even sang songs for him and posed for photographs while shaking his hands.

Overjoyed by the massive reception, Ismail Sabri said: “I didn’t expect this many people to welcome me. This made me forget my fatigue after a long journey.

“Thank you to all those present including those from the UMNO leadership, students and youths from the Keluarga Malaysia who prayed for my safe return,” he added.

However, not everyone was impressed by the “apple-polishing” cheering crowd and took to social media to mock them.

Echoing Khalid’s sentiments, user P George added:

Netizen Kucing Tara posted a caption, showing the similarity between the reception received by Ismail and North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un, saying “same vibe”.

Ismail Sabri and his entourage visited the US recently to attend the ASEAN-US Special Summit at the White House.

This is the second time such a summit with Southeast Asian leaders was hosted by an American president. In February 2016, Barack Obama hosted the summit in Sunnylands, California.

Ismail Sabri massive welcome party was also mocked by DAP MP Hannah Yeoh yesterday.

“Unless you win the World Cup or bring home a gold medal in the Olympics… having such a welcome home party is a plain joke.

“What kind of assistants (does) our Prime Minister hire to do such foolish cosmetic gimmick?” she queried in a Facebook post.

On track to become the next Sri Lanka

On that note, user Yappyap said that there is no need for such a welcome party for Ismail Sabri when he was just doing the job he was entrusted upon.

User Jdcoupe 84 pointed the hypocrisy in having banners celebrating Ismail Sabri in English, given that the latter was promoting the use of Bahasa Melayu.

“Kenapa banner tak pakai bahasa kebangsaan?” (Why no banners in the national language)

Netizen The Media Express jested: “Malaysia on the right track, to be the next Sri Lanka.” – May 16, 2022
