PETALING JAYA: A special committee has been set up to improve procedures for cases of sexual harassment and bullying in educational institutions under the Education Ministry (KPM), says Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin.

The Education Minister said former education director-general Datuk Dr Habibah Abdul Rahim has been appointed as the chairman of the special committee which will examine such cases.

“The committee is composed of eight individuals with extensive experience and with different professional backgrounds.

“Among them are former senior government officials, lecturers, counsellors, legal officers and representatives of non-governmental organisations.

“Thank you for your willingness to help KPM,” he said in a post on his Facebook page on Thursday (May 19).

Radzi said establishing the special committee is one of KPM’s approaches to finding the best solution to deal with sexual harassment and bullying cases in educational institutions under the ministry.

“We are confident and believe that, with the experience and expertise of its members, this special committee will be able to help KPM to study in-depth and subsequently recommend appropriate action plans that can be taken to address cases of sexual harassment and bullying,” he added.
