Keep fast-food counters open for senior citizens By SAMUEL YESUIAH

LETTERS: Popular fast-food restaurants have gone up a notch in terms of in-store services.

Ordering is done through self-service kiosks that take orders and payments. Gone are the days when people queue at counters to place their orders.

The touch-screen kiosk dispenses a number and the food is collected at the counter.

It is a digital world and the fast-food franchise is keeping up with the times with technology. Young people have no qualms about ordering and are savvy at using the machines.

The problem is with senior citizens like me who find these kiosks a hassle.

They are not too user-friendly and do not allow special requests on the food and drinks ordered.

If I want my cold drink without ice, there is no such option. The cold drink will inevitably come with ice.

And if I wanted to order a particular part of the chicken, there is no option to do this. The kiosk does not allow me to state a preference.

Previously, at the counter, I could request those preferences. Senior citizens who are not used to ordering food this way are left staring at these kiosks.

I have tried my hand a couple of times and found them problematic. I had to seek the assistance of young people behind me to make the order.

So apart from putting their staff at these kiosks to assist customers, we hope counters are opened for senior citizens to make their orders according to their preference and liking.
