BUTTERWORTH: The country should not fall under the rule of kleptocrats once again, as it will propagate a bigger issue and problem for the country, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The Perikatan Nasional chairman said he personally would not agree if the future government was ruled by Barisan Nasional, as he claimed it could jeopardise the country's future.

"The situation now does not seem good with the unstable political situation, the confidence of foreign investors, the increasing inflation, it is not good for our country," he said.

He said any political parties that want a better future for the country should be able to put aside their interest and to sit together with others so that they can work to achieve an understanding and form a responsible and stable government.

He said regardless of background, political parties must take into consideration the well-being of the country instead of talking about power, being a Prime Minister or not being in the government.

"Political parties regardless of any must find a way to work together to find the solution to solve the problem and when an election is held the people will choose who they think is the best for them," he said.

The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president was replying to several questions in regards to the party's willingness to work with other political parties in the next general election.

He said what is of great importance is that the nation must be reset and put back to its best position and this needs sacrifices from all parties.

He added that it would be good if every political party in the country could work together but he said it would not be easy to achieve.

The former prime minister, however, said only by working together could the country's problems be solved.

On April 24 Muhyiddin reportedly said that Bersatu was ready to cooperate with any political party to ensure straight fights against Barisan in the upcoming GE15.

He however did not name any party and said that the party was currently in the initial stage of discussions.

PKR secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) deputy president Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub appeared to be open to cooperation beyond just with the Pakatan coalition.

However, other components of Pakatan had previously rejected the idea of rekindling a relationship with Bersatu, whom they see as a traitor and untrustworthy, with Bersatu’s Perikatan Nasional ally PAS also objecting to any such alliance.
