MELAKA: The state government has expressed its gratitude for being chosen to host the Malaysia Day celebrations which will be observed on Sept 16.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali said it was the first time the celebrations would be held outside Sabah and Sarawak, reported Bernama.

“We feel so proud to be selected as the venue of this year’s Malaysia Day celebrations which will be held on Sept 16,” he said in his speech during the launch of the National Month celebrations and the state-level Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2022 campaign in Dataran Sejarah, Ayer Keroh, yesterday.

His speech was read out by state unity, community relations, labour and consumer affairs committee chairman Ngwe Hee Sem.

Sulaiman said the bond of unity was the key to the harmony Malaysians have enjoyed all this while.

“As a result of the strength of the unity among the people of various races, our lives are now back to normal (despite) the pandemic.

“Continue to extend your cooperation so that we can live our lives as normal, just as we did before the pandemic,” he said.

Sulaiman said he also hopes that the entire state would be brightened up with the flying of the Jalur Gemilang, especially at residences, business premises, government and private buildings and vehicles throughout the national month.
