PUTRAJAYA: An online portal has been launched for both the public and students to file complaints about bullying in schools.

Education Minister Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin said reports can be filed via the system, as well as by email and over the telephone, including via WhatsApp messages.

“If a bullying incident happens, report it to us,” he said at the Sekolahku Sejahtera: Sepakat dan Selamat (Happy School: Together and Safe) launch here on Thursday (Aug 18).

He said some parents believed that no action would be taken if their child was bullied and the matter reported to the school or authorities.

He said the ministry has told all schools not to hide bullying cases.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, meanwhile, said the portal will “not just be a portal.”

The people manning it will act on the complaints that are sent in, he added.

“Police records show our children do not (realise) that bullying can damage a person not only while they are in school, but it can become a big problem in the future,” he said at the launch.

Radzi had said last week that the portal would be set up to improve anti-bullying efforts in schools, in relation to an incident at the Mara Junior Science College in Kuantan.
