PUTRAJAYA (Aug 18): Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) will submit its registration application to the Registrar of Society (ROS) next week, the coalition's pro tem chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said.

Mahathir, who is also the Parti Pejuang Tanah Air chairman, said that at the moment, GTA is still in the process of selecting a suitable logo to complete the registration process.

“If the ROS rejects the application, GTA has Plan B. We will use one logo, one flag...and we will introduce and promote our flag and symbol,” he told a press conference after chairing the GTA presidential meeting here on Thursday (Aug 18).

On Aug 4, Mahathir announced the establishment of GTA, a coalition he said is aimed at strengthening the Malays, especially in the economic field.

For a start, GTA comprises Pejuang, Parti Perikatan India Muslim Nasional, Parti Barisan Jemaah Islamiah Se-Malaysia and Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia, and is open to participation from non-governmental organisations, individuals, academics and professional groups among the Malays.

Mahathir also expressed hope that the registration process would run smoothly, so that GTA could field its candidates to contest 120 parliamentary seats in Peninsular Malaysia, especially in Malay-majority areas, in the 15th general election.

“We give assurance that GTA is fighting for the Malays and Islam. This is our fight,” he added.
