KUALA NERANG: Rasyina Naemi Ahmad Rasdi feels uneasy when she sees students riding motorcycles without a valid licence.

The SMK Kuala Nerang parentteacher association (PTA) chairman said the trend was worrying.

"That is why we need effective and sustainable school bus operations for our schools.

"This will provide a safer option for parents, who are unable to send and pick up their children," she told the New Straits Times

She also stressed on the importance and relevance of safe transportation such as school buses.

"It is much safer for the young children to travel to school by bus."

When compared to riding motorcycles to school, she said, it helped to lower the chance of kids going truant in addition to making sure they were punctual.

Rasyina agreed that the government should extend the assistance to school bus operators who were struggling to recover from setbacks suffered during the Covid-19 pandemic.

"All school bus operators are still battling to recover from the losses they suffered when the schools were closed.

"They play an important role in our education system by transporting children to schools safely.

"As such, we hope the government will look into ways to help the operators to develop a sustainable business model," she said.
