KOTA BARU: All warning systems in flood-prone areas nationwide will be upgraded in preparation for the monsoon season.

Energy and Natural Resources Minister Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the government would also be looking into additional devices for the purpose.

The move, he said was crucial following the recent forecast of the MetMeteorological Department (MetMalaysia) on the year-end floods.

He said his ministry had also set up dams in flood-prone states.

"Certain areas have been gazetted for flood relief centres by National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma). I will make sure all the state governments especially the high-risk states are ready (to face the coming monsoon season) in terms of energy and hydro aspects," said the Kota Baru member of parliament after launching the Kota Baru sales carnival here today.

MetMalaysia had forecast that the 2022/2023 monsoon season would take place from November until March.

It also predicted that heavy rain was expected in Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang from November to December while Johor, Sabah and Sarawak are expected to face the monsoon from December to January.

The monsoon season normally occurs from September to November.
