JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) will not give up the Muar parliamentary seat, which is currently being held by its president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

Muda deputy president Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz said the party was focused on ensuring victory for Syed Saddiq in the 15th General Election.

Syed Saddiq won the seat under Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s banner in the last GE14.

“Our focus heading towards GE15 is not about getting the number of contesting seats as Muda is not only realistic but we are also pragmatic and realistic. We will hand over the allocated seat issue during our negotiations with Pakatan Harapan.

“But our intention is to defend the Muar seat as it is our focus as the seat belongs to our president while the other seats we are targeting belong to Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional,” she added.

Amira Aisya said this after having her statement recorded by the police on Tuesday (Sept 20) over her alleged involvement in an assembly she attended in Kuala Lumpur earlier this month.

The Puteri Wangsa assemblyman added that the matter would be among the topics that would be their focus during the Muda central executive committee meeting, which will be held soon.

She said the meeting would also discuss Muda's cooperation with Pakatan and ensure there would not be any clashes during GE15.

“The meeting is held in case our application to join Pakatan is rejected. If we could not join them, then we should continue to discuss with Pakatan to make sure there are no clashes in seats during the national election.

“Presently, there is no plan for us to head solo or cooperate with any political parties,” she added.
