SHAH ALAM: MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M. Saravanan will be meeting Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz tomorrow to discuss several areas where the Indian community requires assistance.
He said the party had identified several issues, which include the development of Tamil schools and places of worship, skills training and financial assistance for businesses.
Saravanan, who is also human resources minister, told reporters this after attending the Malaysian-level 2022 Workers Union Family Members assembly today.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, at the launching of the national-level MIC Brigade and crime prevention exhibition, announced that the government had approved several allocations and initiatives to improve the well-being of the Indian community in the country.
Among them included RM100 million in allocation for the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (Mitra) to eradicate poverty and social development for the Indian community; RM100 million in allocation to carry out socio-economic development programmes for the Indian community and RM25 million to implement an entrepreneur development scheme for the Indian community.
During the event, the prime minister also announced the allocation of RM2 million in financial assistance to help students from poor Indian families.
