PETALING JAYA: The Cabinet has decided to set up a special committee comprising various agencies to address the issue of job scams involving Malaysians abroad.

The formation of the committee, to be headed by the Foreign Ministry, was decided at the Cabinet meeting yesterday, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Special Functions) Datuk Dr Abdul Latiff Ahmad.

“The Cabinet discussed the issue of Malaysians being stranded in foreign countries after being lured and involved in job scam syndicates.

“The government is concerned with the plight of families of Malaysians who are now trapped in a few countries.

“The Cabinet decided to form a special committee comprising various agencies and headed by the Foreign Ministry.

“The government is committed to bringing Malaysians involved back home safely.

“Malaysians are advised to contact the ministry if they receive job offers overseas to ensure such offers are genuine and not scams,” said Abdul Latiff in a statement yesterday.

A source said the special committee would also include the police, immigration department, and Human Resource Ministry as these are the agencies involved in ensuring victims of job scams are brought back to Malaysia.
