SHAH ALAM: Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob should not be worried if Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi threatens to withdraw his support for the prime minister, Anthony Loke said.

The DAP secretary-general said even if Zahid decided to do so, the memorandum of understanding between Ismail Sabri's administration and Pakatan Harapan (PH) would still stand.

"Don't worry if Zahid makes threats. I've said in Parliament before and advised Ismail Sabri. You are the prime minister today.

"Act as the prime minister and not just a party follower," he said at a special DAP congress here, today. 

Loke in his speech said while DAP was ready to face elections at any time, he warned that the prime minister and his friends in Umno would be "severely punished" by Malaysians if they dissolved Parliament and called for elections during the flooding season.

"We are not afraid but we feel that the monsoon season is not suitable to hold elections. We are ready to face the election even if it's called tomorrow.

"Bubar lah Parlimen kalau jantan (if you are manly, dissolve the Parliament). But we are not challenging you to do so," he said, to rousing applause in the hall.

DAP today will amend its party constitution banning its members of Parliament, state assemblymen and senators from hopping to another party.

Loke said this amendment was not to erode the rights of a party member, but to ensure that they stayed loyal to DAP.
