KUALA LUMPUR: The Umno Supreme Council welcomed the cabinet's decision for further investigations by relevant agencies on the possibility of wrongdoing by former attorney-general Tan Sri Tommy Thomas.

Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said the party's meeting tonight also called for the outcome of the task force's investigation of Thomas' book titled "My Story: Justice In the Wilderness" to be made public immediately.

"This is important to restore the image and integrity of the judicial institution and the rule of law of the country.

"Such an example was found on page 342 of the book, which is likely to violate Section 32 of the Judicial Appointments Commission Act 2009," he said when reading a press statement.

Earlier, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had instructed the special task force to further investigate the possibility of wrongdoing by Thomas after it presented the recommendations to the cabinet today.

The prime minister, in a statement, had said the investigation would be conducted under Sections 124I and 203A of the Penal Code, Section 4 of the Sedition Act, Section 8 of the Official Secrets Act and Section 23 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Act.

On separate issue, Ahmad said Umno will uphold a decree by the Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar on May 15, who wanted the report of an investigation by the special task force on the Pulau Batu Putih sovereignty issue to be immediately presented and disclosed to the public.

"This has to be done as it involves matters of national dignity and sovereignty."
