KUALA LUMPUR: The government is not planning to put up a reward for any information that can lead to the arrest of fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin said a "red notice" issued by the Interpol was sufficient for that matter.

"It is better to use a red notice since it involves more accurate intelligence gathering and cooperation.

"This approach requires 195 (Interpol) member countries to channel any available information on Jho Low to Malaysia to facilitate an extradition," Hamzah said in a written reply at the Dewan Rakyat today. 

He was replying to a question by Lim Lip Eng (PH-Kepong) on whether the police were acting on claims by two journalists Tom Wright and Bradley Hope that Jho Low had been sighted in China and Hong Kong back in 2018, and why the government did not offer any reward for information that could lead to his capture.

Hamzah said the veracity of all information received on the whereabouts of Jho Low would be scurtinised.

To a question by R.S.N. Rayer (PH-Jeluton) on the measures taken to arrest Jho Low, Hamzah assured his ministry's commitment and said the police had been engaging with several foreign authorities including the United States' Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI).

He also said those with information on the case should contact the CCID Infoline at 013-211 1222 on Whatsapp or visit the nearest police station.

"Every information we get here will also be channeled to Interpol."

In September, Wright and Hope posted pictures of what appeared to be Jho Low to substantiate allegations that Malaysia's most-wanted fugitive is hiding in China.

Wright, who co-authored "The Billion Dollar Whale" based on the flamboyant Jho Low, who is facing multi billion-dollar charges related to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) in the US and Malaysia, posted the pictures they received on Twitter.
