JOHOR BARU: People in Johor will enjoy an extended break this weekend after the state government announced Sunday as a public holiday.

State Secretary Tan Sri Azmi Rohani announced that Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar has decreed that Nov 27 be declared a public holiday in the state.

"The public holiday was announced following the success of Johor Darul Ta'zim entering the final of the Malaysia Cup which will be held on Saturday, Nov 26.

"This will enable supporters who want to watch the final to plan their travel so they would not be hasty and be safe," Azmi said in a statement.

He said the holiday was declared in accordance with Section 8 and 9 of the Holidays Act 1951.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that Monday Nov 28 will be a public holiday in Malaysia.

In the statement, Azmi said the state government has agreed to declare Monday as a public holiday in the state. This means Johoreans will enjoy a four-day weekend beginning today (Friday).
