KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 25 — Any proposal by Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties demanding the resignation of its chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi can only be decided by the coalition’s supreme council, said Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir.

Zambry said the matter must follow protocol and the BN constitution, Sinar Harian reported today.

“Any proposal or suggestions which was submitted in the meetings will be ultimately decided by the supreme council.

“BN stands with the principle of respecting each other in facing any issues,” he was quoted as saying.

Zambry noted that the BN headquarters is aware of the statements issued by its component party leaders.

BN comprises four parties: Umno, MIC, MCA, and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS).

On Wednesday, MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong, MIC president Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran and PBRS deputy president Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup pushed for a vote of no-confidence against Ahmad Zahid and demanded the latter resign.

The vote of no-confidence was called after Ahmad Zahid was accused of betraying the BN supreme council decision to remain neutral in the post-electoral political deadlock between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Perikatan Nasional.

Ahmad Zahid allegedly sent a letter to the palace pledging the support of BN’s 30 MPs for PH’s Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the 10th prime minister.
