THIS is not to say that senior civil servants do not deserve to live in a posh home but the luxuriousness of the home of Treasury secretary-general Datuk Seri Asri Hamidin @ Hamidon is surely very eye-catching to say the least.

Amid rumours being rife that Asri who has been on leave since Tuesday (Dec 6) - coincidentally the day Prime Minister-cum-Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim commenced his duty in the Finance Ministry (MOF) - The Vibes has exposed a 2021 video depicting a luxury residence purportedly owned by Asri.

“The minute-long clip appears to be an advertisement for the services of an interior design company called Skuad Dekorasi,” revealed the news portal. “A family with a man resembling Asri also makes a brief appearance in the video as the purported owners of the home.”

Added The Vibes: “The video shows the beautiful furnishings of several bedrooms, living rooms and kitchen, while the woman in the family talks about the family’s satisfaction with the renovation and redesign by Skuad Dekorasi.”

For the record, Asri was appointed to his current position on May 1, 2020 during the administration of former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. He had previously served under former finance minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz who was again retained as finance minister under the government of Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

But following the change of government which culminated in the formation of a unity government under Anwar, Tengku Zafrul is now the newly-minted International Trade and Industry Minister while Anwar has himself assumed the portfolio of Finance Minister.

Asri was conspicuously absent when Anwar clocked in as Finance Minister yesterday (Dec 7).

Meanwhile, a source told MalaysiaNow that Asri has been placed on leave beginning Tuesday (Dec 6), a move that coincides with Anwar’s first day at work as Finance Minister.

“The secretary-general didn’t greet Anwar. He was placed on leave,” the news portal cited the source as saying.

“During the first meeting at MOF, Anwar (himself) said that the secretary-general would be replaced.”

Asri was previously the deputy secretary-general of Treasury (Policy), the position he assumed since Nov 25, 2019 before his appointment to his current position. - Dec 8, 2022
