Convenience store company 7-Eleven Malaysia Holdings Bhd has announced the appointment of Farhash Wafa Salvador, a loyalist of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, as its chairman effective yesterday. 

In an announcement to Bursa Malaysia, the company said Farhash would replace Robin Tan Yeong Ching, the son of entrepreneur Vincent Tan, who was appointed as chairman on Nov 25, 2021 and owns a 41.8% stake.

In a separate announcement earlier, the company said Tan had resigned to pursue other interests. 

Its statement to Bursa Malaysia said that Farhash, 40, has more than a decade of experience in business, consulting and advisory.

"Farhash is or has been a director and/or shareholder in at least 10 private companies, including Swag Technologies Sdn Bhd, Salvador & Sons Sdn Bhd and Pacific Samudera Sdn Bhd.

"He was also an independent non-executive director of Bluemont Group Limited (now known as Southern Archipelago Limited) from 2014 to 2016, a public-listed company listed on the mainboard of the Singapore Exchange," it said. 

Farhash was also appointed as group executive chairman of Apex Equity Holdings Bhd last week, replacing Ahmad Redza Abdullah who stepped down in September 2022 after three months. 

Farhash, Anwar's former political secretary and Perak PKR chairman, made headlines after his arrest as part of an investigation into an assault at a sports complex in Ampang on Aug 31, 2019. 

He was arrested after presenting himself at the Ampang Jaya district police headquarters, and subsequently released on police bail.

He was also previously accused of assaulting Anwar's former assistant, Muhammed Yusoff Rawther. He later sued Yusoff for defamation.
