Floods: Situation improves in Johor, number of evacuees drops below 4,000

JOHOR BARU: The number of flood victims seeking shelter at the temporary relief centres statewide continue to see a decline with less than 4,000 people as of 4pm Friday (Jan 27).

The state disaster management committee said that the number went down to 3,498 from 4,532 at noon.

"A total of six relief centres were closed between noon and 2pm, while three others, two hours later.

"There are currently only 38 centres that remain open at the seven affected districts," it said in a statement.

It added that Mersing has the highest number of victims (1,789), followed by Kluang (843), Kota Tinggi (482), Batu Pahat (205), Segamat (151), Tangkak (15) and Muar (13).

"The weather has also remained sunny in most parts of Johor since 8am this morning.

"Only Johor Baru, Muar, Batu Pahat and Tangkak experienced some rain at around 2pm before the weather turns bright again," it said.
