PETALING JAYA: Former Umno information chief Shahril Hamdan says he was never called up by the party’s disciplinary board before being suspended on Friday (Jan 27).

He also said he was pessimistic about making an appeal to reverse the committee’s decision as he claimed they never followed the right procedure in the first place.

“Some people asked me to file an appeal. But, how can I do that?

“How can I make an appeal when the initial procedure (of suspension) was not even followed properly?” he said in a video posted on his Facebook page on Saturday (Jan 28).

Shahril also said he was unsure of the reason why the committee decided to suspend him for six years.

“There were messages that had been making rounds saying I was suspended because I resigned as information chief, and asked the president to take responsibility for Umno's losses in the 15th General Election.

“I’m not sure if these are reasonable excuses (for the suspension),” he added.

Shahril was among members who were suspended for six years. Others include Sembrong Umno chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, former Youth exco member Datuk Dr Fathul Bari Mat Jahya, former Johor state exco member and Tebrau Umno division chief Datuk Maulizan Bujang and former Jempol MP Datuk Seri Mohd Salim Mohd Shariff.

The Umno supreme council also sacked former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin and supreme council member Tan Sri Noh Omar.
