KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today insisted there was no nepotism involved in the appointment of his daughter, Nurul Izzah, as his senior adviser.
He said the appointment was based on merits and qualifications, to assist him with the Finance Ministry work.
"She was appointed to help (with the administration of the ministry) and there is no additional cost incurred.
"It is not the same as the other situation, because she's coming in to help. Not to enrich or take projects," he said when met after the National Sports Awards 2021 ceremony today.
Anwar added that Nurul Izzah's appointment was to ensure transparency in the administration as well as monitor tender procurement matters at the ministry.
"I believe she will keep an eye to ensure that the awarding of contracts and tenders are in order.
"I don't have any problem with critics so long its sincere and constructive but in this case, those who are against it are those who, they themselves have awarded hundred of thousands worth projects to their kin".
He added that the critics had also paid salaries to those who were not doing their work and gave out tenders to those who did not deserve it.
