KINABATANGAN: The Kinabatangan Disaster Operations Control Centre (PKOB) stressed that an aerial photo which went viral on social media, purportedly showing the latest flood situation at Pengkalan Jetty near here, is inaccurate.

It said that the water level situation in the district, despite the rain for several days, is still safe and under control.

"Kinabatangan PKOB received a complaint regarding an aerial photograph which showed a very bad situation in the district.

"In fact, monitoring by all rescue and security agencies concluded that the area is still safe; residents' activities are still going on as usual and there is no need for evacuation,” it said in a statement on Thursday (Feb 2).

It also added that the area shown in the picture, which is a river reserve or riparian zone, should be empty because all the previous residents have moved to Kampung Pelangi.

Meanwhile, Kinabatangan Civil Defence Force (APM) officer, Captain Ahmad Roslan Mohd Kamel, said that the district PKOB issued the statement because they did not want to cause fear and anxiety among the public.

He also shared the latest monitoring photos in the field, showing some areas where the water level did not even reach ankle level.- Bernama
