PAKATAN Harapan (PH) needs to take into account the sentiment of its coalition partners before making any decisions to accept former Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin.

According to Negri Sembilan Amanah chairman Datuk MK Ibrahim Abd Rahman, PH needs to also consider the views from its unity government partner, Barisan Nasional (BN) as well as PH grassroots members on whether they consent to Khairy joining the coalition.

He also noted that any individual who was once considered a “foe” by fellow party members will cause a huge problem for PH.

“Personally, I don’t think Khairy joining the coalition would do much to bolster support; rather, it might put PH in danger,” MK Ibrahim was reported as saying by Harian Metro.

“Khairy is not a party man but a populist and certainly [him joining the coalition] is just to seek popularity.”

MK Ibrahim pointed out that should Khairy join Perikatan Nasional (PN) in Negri Sembilan, PH and BN would be faced with fierce competition.

As such, it would not be easy to maintain a unity government, although PH is well-prepared with its actions and strategies, he added.

Earlier this week, Khairy, who is a former health minister, said he still feels for politics although he remains unsure when will he make a comeback.

He also did not rule out contesting in the upcoming state elections.

Speaking to BFM Radio’s Breakfast Grille programme on Monday, he said he had started receiving offers after failing to win the Sungai Buloh parliamentary seat in the 15th general election and after being sacked from UMNO last Friday.

“They range from political and academic to corporate offers. It is not a decision I will make lightly. I still want to be involved in politics but I am unsure when I will make a comeback to the front of the line,” he acknowledged.

Khairy said he was open to listening to offers but they should be a good fit and there must be chemistry, adding that it also has to be something that is aligned with his vision for the country and not just an “opportunistic decision”. - Feb 2, 2023
