PADANG BESAR: All foreign-registered vehicles are banned from refuelling subsidised diesel at any fuel station in the state effective today.

Prior to this, foreign-registered vehicles were allowed to fill up maximum 20 litres of Malaysian-subsidised diesel at fuel stations in Perlis.

The latest move is an extension to the ban of subsidised RON95 petrol sales to foreign-registered vehicles in the state.

Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry deputy director-general (operations) Shamsul Nizam Khalil said the ban was imposed to stem smuggling activities of Malaysian subsidised diesel to the neighbouring country.

"We have embarked on a 14-day advocacy campaign beginning Jan 27 involving all 40 fuel station operators, including two outlets selling non-subsidised fuel in the state.

"Last year, we recorded five smuggling cases involving subsidised diesel and petrol, with three of the cases have been charged in the court.

"The advocacy is also extended to vehicle owners passing the border entry points in Bukit Kayu Hitam and Wang Kelian," he told reporters after taking part in an advocacy campaign on Titi Tinggi here today.

Shamsul said as an alternative, foreign-registered vehicles were allowed to refuel unsubsidised RON97, RON95, and diesel at two dedicated kiosks at Kampung Kolam Industrial Zone and Wang Kelian.
