JOHOR BARU: Food and beverage premises are allowed to offer their own version of Menu Rahmah as long as it is priced under RM5, says Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub.

The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister added that the most important thing is that the menu offered should not compromise the quality, quantity, or hygiene level of the product.

“The Menu Rahmah initiative is more of a volunteer programme for the food and beverage premises than an enforcement move from the ministry, and none of them are forced to provide this menu.

“But I am happy that there are many premises that have participated in this initiative and are part of the programme to help the hard-core poor in line with our effort to combat the rising cost of living,” he said.

He said this when met by reporters after launching the Menu Rahmah at Samballana Bistro, in Bandar Dato’ Onn, here, on Saturday (Feb 4).

The Pulai MP said this when asked to comment on a menu offered by a food and beverage premises that sells two cups of drinks for the price of RM5.

“The Menu Rahmah initiative is not meant to disrupt any business module; we just want premises owners to introduce a cheaper menu while continuing to sell what they have already offered.

“There’s even durian Rahmah being sold right now, so the potential for this initiative is limitless,” he said, adding that he is also looking forward to the types of Menu Rahmah offered during the coming fasting month and Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Salahuddin also said that he will be meeting with the Chinese Restaurants Associations and food and beverage franchisees next week, who are also keen on offering Menu Rahmah in their restaurants.

“We have also requested a directory of the Indian Muslim Restaurant Association's 15,000 members so that we could help promote these restaurants through social media,” he said.
