KUALA LUMPUR: Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has told party secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan to not interfere with the Registrar of Societies's (RoS) duties.
Ismail, in an interview with the New Straits Times Press, was referring to Ahmad's claims that Umno did not violate its constitution or standing order in relation to the party general assembly's decision to leave its two top posts uncontested.
The former prime minister said Ahmad should not have made the statement as the RoS had not complete its probe into the matter.
"Do not take over the RoS's jurisdiction. It is only recently that the RoS had responded to the letters of complainants (over a dispute on the general assembly's decision) regarding the matter.
"I have been made to under that the RoS is investigating the matter, so Ahmad should not have said that. Let the RoS carry out its probe."
Yesterday, Ahmad said the passing of a no-contest motion for the president and deputy president posts at the party's general assembly did not breach its constitution or rules.
He added that "90 per cent of the delegates" to the assembly agreed that the top two posts should not be contested.
"There have been many times in Umno's 77-year history that the positions have not been contested," he said in a Facebook post.
On Jan 31, senior Umno representatives met and provided an explanation to the RoS regarding the passing of the motion.
The meeting was set up following the actions of two Umno members, who on Jan 20 lodged complaints with the RoS to review the additional motion of no-contest for the top two posts which was approved during the party's general assembly.
