KUALA LUMPUR: Following the expansion of the Rahmah initiative, the government is advised to also look into including umrah packages under the Rahmah Package.
This suggestion was made by Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd Managing Director Datuk Ameer Mydin when interviewed about the company's participation in the Rahmah Menu programme.
"Having umrah or hotel packages (so relevant operators can participate) as part of the initiative is an idea to look into.
Checks by the New Straits Times with the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry found that the details of the Rahmah Package are still a work in progress.
Ameer, whose hypermarket chain is set to participate in the Rahmah Package initiative, noted the company also plans to sell their original products for a reduced price.
On the Rahmah Menu, the Managing Director said they received more than 100 patrons daily across all 28 outlets thanks to the all-day offering with meals as cheap as RM2.50.
"Breakfast includes a plate of fried mee and three slices of 'pencuci mulut' (desserts) for the price stated.
"Our plate of rice with a side dish of chicken or fish is priced at RM 4.90," he said.
Ameer who is also the President of Bumiputera Retailers Association said members were equally looking to join in to offer the Rahmah Menu.
He called on more food operators, particularly fast food restaurants, to join in and play a part in the initiative.
