Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Muhyiddin Yassin has demanded an apology from Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi over their accusations that the coalition had received funds from gambling companies for the 15th general election campaign.

The Pagoh MP said PN will consult with their legal team regarding further actions.

"We demand that they apologise. These are serious, defamatory allegations.

"We will see what steps they take afterwards," he said to the media in Kuala Lumpur today.

Yesterday, law minister Azalina Othman Said informed the Dewan Rakyat in a written reply that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission could not verify the claims made by Anwar.

Anwar had implied that "Malay" and "Islamic" parties received funds from gambling companies involved in special lottery draws.

Zahid also reiterated the accusation by stating that the funds came from the "other side," referring to PN, which allegedly received money from gambling companies.

According to Muhyiddin, Azalina's statement indicates a lack of evidence over Anwar's allegations.

PAS, a component party of PN, also urged Anwar to apologise for spreading false accusations.
