Survey: Malaysian female Gen-Zs and millennials more pessimistic about world than male counterparts

KUALA LUMPUR, May 29 — Women from the Generation-Z (Gen-Z) and millennial generations were more likely to be pessimistic than their male counterparts about the world and their places in it, the Deloitte Global 2023 Gen Z and Millennial Survey found.

The scores from Malaysian female Gen-Zs placed them at a score of 40 on a scale of zero to 100, with zero representing total pessimism and 100 meaning absolute optimism.

Meanwhile, Malaysian female millennials scored a 37.

On the other hand, Malaysian male Gen-Zs had a score of 44 while Malaysian male millennials scored a 42.

The scores were from the survey’s Millz Mood Monitor, which gauges the mood of respondents based on responses to questions on five topics, including economic, sociopolitical, personal financial and environmental situations, as well as the impact of business on wider society.

The findings extended to results from global respondents, which showed that female Gen-Zs scored 34 and female millennials scored 32.

Similarly, Male Gen-Zs scored 42 and male millennials scored 37.

The online survey had 303 Malaysian respondents, 201 of which were from Gen-Z while 102 were millennials. The gender of respondents was split equally between male and female.

In total, the survey received responses from 14,483 Gen-Zs and 8,373 millennials from 44 countries.
