KUALA LUMPUR: Gerakan president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau Hoe Chai said the party is aiming to contest in about 30 seats in the upcoming state elections.

Lau, 55, who is the party's sixth president, said Gerakan was almost done in finalising its list of candidates for the seats.

He said the party aimed to field candidates in Kedah, Penang, Selangor and Negri Sembilan.

He added that discussions between Perikatan Nasional (PN) component parties are ongoing for seats in the east coast states of Kelantan and Terengganu.

"Although our focus in the other four states, Gerakan does not mind contesting in the east coast too...our main goal is to ensure PN comes out victorious in the upcoming state elections," Lau told Malay daily Utusan Malaysia.

In late March, Lau said the party had submitted 70 names to the PN supreme council for consideration to be fielded in the state elections.
