BUTTERWORTH: It is up to the police to investigate the statement made by Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor who claimed that Penang belongs to Kedah, says Fahmi Fadzil.

"If there is a case, then it is then up to the Attorney General to charge him under the law," the Communications and Digital Minister said during a press conference after the pre-launch of the Madani Community in Seberang Prai in Penang on Saturday (June 3).

He was asked if any action can be taken against the Kedah Mentri Besar over his remarks.

"If we look carefully at the constitution, Penang is clearly called a state. It is clearly stated in the constitution and one must comply with it.

"If there is anyone going against it, then authorities will investigate and stop false information from being spread," he said.

When asked if the Sedition Act could come into play in such a situation, Fahmi said police are free to investigate if there is relevant legislation.

"It is up to them to decide which Act and subsequently up to the Attorney-General to decide whether to press charges," he said.

Muhammad Sanusi continues to come under a barrage of criticism over his remarks that Penang belongs to Kedah.

He recently said Penang belongs to Kedah and that the Federal Constitution needs to be amended to accommodate findings made by historians and experts in Kedah.
