WAN Muhammad Azri Wan Deris or better known as Papagomo, officially announced on Saturday (June 3) that he is backing former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“The struggle is for the sake of religion, race, and the nation, rather than any political party. I will now cut his hair and his beard because now he is back.

“As long as there is no official duty for me to fight for religion, race and the nation, I will not cut my hair and beard. This has been my vow since being suspended from UMNO in September 2021,” said Wan.

He added that Dr Mahathir symbolically cut a little of his hair as a fulfilment of my vow.

“I felt like crying earlier because I am the one who has experienced the bitter and sweet moments of this struggle, along with my family and loyal friends who have stayed with me throughout this journey.”

Surprisingly, there is no statement from Dr Mahathir on his new-found alliance with the former UMNO member.

Wan is known for his vociferous campaigns against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim when the latter was in Opposition. He also criticised Dr Mahathir when the latter joined the Pakatan Harapan (PH) to bring down former PM Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

He was also seen to be on the side of the fallen Najib. But since his downfall from UMNO in 2021 when he was suspended, he abandoned the political struggles.

Netizens are unfazed by the news.

User @azurahabdaziz said:

“Well, what did you expect? Its Papagomo. What was his struggle all along we do not know.”

Meanwhile, user @Muhamad40481371 is of the opinion that Papagomo should not involve race or religion in his struggle. The user urged the latter to be more forthcoming.

“There’s no need to involve race, religion and Malaysia. Just say it’s for your personal gain. Don’t turn things around, brother. The people of Malaysia understand.”

Another user showed irritation at the news.

“Defamation suit loser repeater. Even losing to Anwar costs almost a million. Who else would pay his debts if not Dr Mahathir? On top of that, he was expelled from PDRM for criminal offences. Which fool would believe him now?” - June 4, 2023
